EVENING OUTING: 'Shell Shocked' - German Expressionism after the Great War @ LACMA - Ahmanson Bldg., Los Angeles

Incredible.
Simply incredible.
You should really see this if you get a chance.
I say no more.

"As I grow older, as each passing day comes to a end, as each moon falls deep into the sea at the dawning of a new day, I feel my tastes changing. Long gone are the days of admiring what is the colourful pure surface. I now find myself studying the textures of the surface, rather than seeing it as a whole. I find beauty in the subtle nuances that create the texture and composition of even the smallest area of each work. How the lines are formed, the patterns left by the brush strokes, the varying degrees of thickness formed by layers upon layers of paste-like oil paint, and the complex thoughts and feeling that went through the minds of the artists when such creations were brought to life, these are the things that I now see as art. Beauty is finding fallen-off twisted brush hairs sticking out of the paint."
